Leaf Pick-Up Guidelines
The Village of Central Square Department of Public Works (DPW) provides leaf and brush pick-up services twice a year for Village residents. Notifications are published in the local paper, displayed on our new digital sign, and available here.
Spring: During the spring pick-up period, residents are advised to rake leaves and place them as close to the edge of the street as possible. Leaves should not be bagged or placed on sidewalks or in ditches. Only leaves should be placed in the leaf pile; other materials such as grass, branches, landscape waste, etc., are not accepted. Brush and sticks can also be placed loosely along the street, ensuring they do not obstruct drainage and are not bound in any way. Logs, stumps, large amounts of sticks and limbs from clearing, grass clippings, flowers, weeds, plants, and lumber should not be placed roadside for pick-up.
Fall: For fall pick-up, residents are requested to adhere to the same guidelines as those outlined for spring pick-up. An alternative to leaf disposal is mulching. Leaves can be chopped with a lawn mower, string trimmer, or shredder before mulching to be used under trees, shrubs, etc.
Snow Removal: As snowfall occurs, the Village of Central Square urges residents to assist in keeping water hydrants and sidewalks clear near their homes. Clearing hydrants can help save valuable time in the event of a fire. Additionally, residents are reminded not to shovel, blow, or plow snow into the streets while clearing driveways, as this can create hazardous conditions for drivers and pedestrians. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
